Our Story

What started as a bonding activity with my daughter, Regina, has become so much more—a journey of learning, growing, and rediscovering joy in the simplest of things.
 

When we moved to Texas to begin a new chapter as a family, everything around me felt unfamiliar. Life had shifted, and I found myself craving something steady and meaningful to hold onto. Then one day, Regina said she wanted to learn how to make sourdough. We signed up for an online course, created our own little starter, and began feeding it each day.

At first, it was just a fun experiment. But with every rise and bake, something inside me shifted. Watching life grow from flour and water brought calm to my day. Baking became a rhythm I could count on, a quiet ritual that gave shape to my days. It brought me calm, purpose, and a surprising amount of joy. There was something incredibly comforting about it all. The patience it required. The slowness of the process. The way flour and water, when nurtured, could become something so warm and nourishing. In those quiet, flour-dusted moments, I began to feel grounded. I found peace in the rhythm of baking, and joy in something as small and humble as a rising loaf. It gave me purpose during a time when I needed it most.

Somewhere along the way, my mom told me I reminded her of Machu—my grandmother. We always called her that without much thought, but Machu comes from the Basque word Amatxu, which means “mother.” And she truly embodied that name. She was the heart of our kitchen and the soul of our family—a woman who cooked with love, lived with courage, and nurtured everyone around her.

I had never really stopped to reflect on the meaning behind her name or her legacy—until now. Being compared to her, not just in how I cook, but in how I live—with heart, decisiveness, and bravery—felt deeply grounding. Baking became more than just making bread; it became a way to reconnect with my roots and share that love with others.

Now, nearly eight months later, I’m ready to share this part of my story with my community.
